Happiness Chemicals

When we think of happiness, what do we think of? Is it loved ones, our pets, nature, certain foods? Happiness is apparently boosted by different chemicals depending on the activity and such. I wanted to share with you what they are and what activities and such connect to them.

I’ve noticed when tasks are unfinished it nags at me, but when I finish them there’s a sense of satisfaction, pride even. Listening to music, choosing songs according to my mood, or maybe I need to cry something out, so I’ll put something on to facilitate that. Eating the wrong thing will set my tummy off and my mood, so what foods we eat matter. These activities produce dopamine a feel good chemical within our bodies. Completion of tasks is a health and wellness issue, so if we are able to completing tasks can fee great, as can listening to the right music, a massage, good foods. Then there is the endorphin factor. When we say exercise usually people think of a gym and all that. I cleaned out my main living room closet, and that is a form of exercise, which when I was done actually felt good emotionally and physically because I completed a task and got some exercise. I live on the fourth floor and per stairwell there are four steps, so I am starting to use the stairs more as it will work out the whole body. Exercise if you have the room can also be listening to music, singing along with it, being respectful of neighbors of course, and dancing in the house. That takes care of more than one chemical making you feel pretty good. I also always have some dark chocolate on hand, vegan as I am lactose sensitive, so some good dark chocolate and some good company can boost the happy chemical. What about hugs, holding hands, that physical touch, well it can boost oxytocin, so let nature, exercise, dark chocolate all of that be your happy boost. If you really want to have happy on all cylinders, combing any of these with meditation, and you have a wining combo. I love waking around nature, even if it’s across the street from the park, having that contact with nature, eating some dark chocolate as I take that walk, having some good music playing on my phone is a great way to boost happy. My other happy is my dog Lizzie, and because animals are sensitive to moods, energy etc…I want to make sure I am in a good place, so she can feel she can be in a good place.

When life get a bit down, use these techniques to boost the happy chemicals in natural ways. Perhaps Western medicine can do less chemical prescribing and work more with us to boost our happy factor naturally.

Take Care of Yourselves and find natural ways to be on a high note. God Bless.
